"The town of fireworks" Omagari is known for its colourful fireworks that light up the night sky. The All-Japan National Fireworks Competition (Omagari Fireworks) are held right here in Omagari. The impressive explosions and spectacular flashes thrill the crowds with cutting edge fireworks technology and the expert skills of fireworks masters from throughout Japan.

Held on the banks of the Omono River annually during the fourth week of August. Leading fireworks masters from throughout Japan are selected to pit their skills and compete for the top position. Competitors have strived to produce their best work to take the title of the most prestigious fireworks competition in the country. Located on the banks of the Omono River with mountains in the background, it is an ideal location to enjoy the vigor and beauty of the show.

21. Kyowa Tanabata Fireworks

Held annually at the beginning of July in Funaoka Aza, Utsuno, and Kyowa.
Held in only two locations in Akita prefecture the Nishakudama fireworks followed by the Dai Starman Set Piece Display are launched into the Tanabata night sky. Every year various new fireworks designs are launched into action. Since 2006 an all female fireworks masters' competition has also been introduced.

Held on the banks of the Omono River Kariwano, annually on August the 15th.
Approximately 1,000 lanterns float majestically down the river while over 2,000 fireworks light up the summer night sky.

23. Kamioka Nangai Fireworks competition

Held annually on the 14th of September at Jinguji Nakagawara Public Park.
Over 4,000 colourful fireworks are launched into the autumn night sky at Hachiman Shrine's Dusk Festival, producing impressive echos off Jinguji Mountain in the background.

Shinsaku Hanabi Collection

Held annually at Omagari Family Ski Area at the end of March. Young up and coming fireworks masters from throughout Japan are invited to compete using technologically advanced fireworks known as Kodama (pellet) fireworks. This formal competition uses cutting edge high-grade fireworks and each set off 10 shots of grade 4 and 5 shots of grade 5 Kodama fireworks.
