昼花火は、雅趣に富んだ見応えあるもので、昔から花火通の粋人が好む花火でした。現在昼花火競技を行っているのは、全国でも大曲だけです。
「煙竜（えんりゅう）」と「割物（わりもの）」の2種類で競技を行い、その形と色の組み合わせにより総合美を競い合います。
「煙竜」は、色煙（紅、黄・青・緑・紫など）が織りなす模様やその変化する様が、「割物」は夜の割物花火と同様に「菊」や「牡丹」を色煙や光でどのように表現するかが重要なポイントとされています。
Both impressive and elegant, daytime hanabi have been enjoyed by hanabi connoisseurs for generations. Today, Omagari is the only place in Japan where a competition of daytime fireworks is conducted.
The competition consists of smoke dragons and warimono, where entries are judged on their artistic merit through a combination of shape and colour.
Significant criteria for smoke dragons are the intertwining and colour-shifting of the smoke streams (red, yellow, blue, green, purple etc.), and for warimono are the way coloured smoke and light are expressed, similar to evening hanabi.
