伝統的工芸品「割物花火」　Traditional Craft – Warimono Hanabi

 

　花火といえば、夜空に丸く広がる花火を思い浮かぶのではないだろうか。
この丸い花火は「割物花火」と呼ばれ、日本の花火の特徴であり、伝統技術の集大成でもある。

 

　大曲の割物花火は、「大館の曲げわっぱ」「角館の樺細工」「秋田の銀線細工」とならんで、平成8年に秋田県の伝統的工芸品に指定されている。

 

　花火師の職人技が凝縮された1発1発の花火玉には、花火師それぞれの魂が込められている。

 

Hanabi is most commonly known for round, aerial fireworks. This type of hanabi, the warimono, is a union of traditional craft and a symbol of Japanese fireworks.

 

Alongside Odate Magewappa, Kakunodate Kabazaiku and Akita Ginsenzaiku, Omagari Warimono Hanabi were officially designated in 1996 as Traditional Craft Products of Akita.

 

Hanabi artists pour their hearts and souls into every individual shell, each one a culmination of technique and craft.

 

 

 

10号割物の部　#10 Warimono Category

 

　日本の花火の基本である割物花火。大曲の花火での割物競技は10号玉2発で行われる。
10号玉とは、尺玉とも呼ばれる直径約30cmの大きさで、地上300mの高さまで打ち上げられ、直径約330mの大輪の花を咲かせる。

 

　競技の1発目は「芯入割物」と呼ばれる、花火が描く同心円（球）を描く花弁の中に、1つ以上の芯を持たせたもの。2発目は「割物自由玉」と呼ばれる、割物の伝統を守りながらも花火師が割物に新たなイメージを吹き込んだ作品。

　色彩や配色の美しさ、形などにこだわった芸術品と腹に響く音、競技玉にはどれ一つとして同じものがなく、そこには花火師の気迫やこだわり、職人と芸術家の魂が感じられる。

 

Warimono hanabi are the staple of Japanese fireworks. The warimono category at Omagari Hanabi consists of two #10 (number ten) shells.

 

#10 shells, also known as shakudama, measure close to 30cm in diameter and are launched to a height of 300m before bursting outwards to draw petals of roughly 330cm in diameter.

 

The first of the two competition shells is the pistil warimono, containing at least one inner pistil of identical spherical proportion to its outer petals. The second is the freestyle warimono, still conforming to traditional style but rendered by the artist in new ways.

 

No two competition shells are the same, and the craft, spirit and soul of the hanabi artist can be appreciated through the dazzling hues, colour arrangements, intricate forms, and thunderous claps that ripple through the body of these pieces of art.

 

割物には顔がある　The Face of Warimono

　大仙美郷には、5つの花火業者がある。花火という特殊な業者が、この狭い地域にこれほどいるということは、この地域の生活にいかに密接し、盛んであるかがうかがえる。

　魂を込めて製作された花火玉は、一発一発製作者によって筒に装填される。

 

There are five hanabi studios between Daisen and Misato. With so many specialised fireworks companies in such a small area, it is clear to see just how popular and intertwined hanabi are with life in the region.

 

Each painstakingly crafted shell is loaded individually by the artist into their mortars.
